Our facilities

Supported by the very latest technology, equipment, and facilities, at Royston Hospital we are able to provide the most comprehensive range of private surgical facilities in the Hawke’s Bay area.

Parking

An area is available at the front of the hospital for dropping off and picking up patients, and a large car parking area is located opposite the hospital entrance in Prospect Road, with entry from either Southland or Prospect Road. Please note we accept no responsibility for your car security.

Operating theatre and recovery

Our operating suite comprises 5 theatres, including 2 state-of-the-art digital theatres to be commissioned in the coming months, an endoscopy procedure room, modern CSSD and an 8-bed recovery unit fully equipped to meet the requirements of modern surgery.

Day stay unit (DSU)

Our day surgery unit is situated adjacent to the operating theatres. The DSU specialises in care and support for patients to have surgery and be discharged home on the same day, usually within two to three hours. Your specialist will admit you through this unit whenever clinically appropriate.

The benefits of day surgery include less time away from home and work, a smooth streamlined admission, surgery, recovery and discharge process.

In some circumstances following surgery, it may be necessary to transfer a day surgery patient to the ward for ongoing monitoring. If this is the case, an accommodation fee will be charged.

Royston suites

Here at Royston we are happy to offer you a superior room upgrade, adding an extra level of comfort to your stay with us.

Our suites have a northerly aspect and are larger than our standard rooms – each with fridge, tea and coffee making facilities, full Sky television and broadband internet. They also have a lovely indoor / outdoor flow with a large private deck area.

Our suites incur an additional charge, which many medical insurance policies will cover in whole or in part. Patients covered by ACC may elect to pay a surcharge to enjoy the special comfort provided by having a suite.

If you would like to book a suite, please contact your Specialist or our Admissions Coordinator who will be able to arrange this for you.

You are also welcome to contact us and find out more.

Patient rooms

Here at Royston, we endeavour to give you a choice of room to suit your needs. Irrespective of your choice, you will receive the same high standard of nursing care.

If you are staying overnight, you have a choice (subject to availability and appropriate to your operation) of one of our Royston Suites, or a standard room.

All of our patient rooms have private TV (Sky), radio and telephone, and a complimentary copy of the daily newspaper is provided. We have free WiFi which is available for you to use.

Gardens

Our hospital is set amongst tranquil gardens which you and your visitors are welcome to enjoy.

Waste Disposal

Royston Hospital is committed to caring for our environment and we have implemented a Reduce Reuse Recycle programme to reduce our environmental footprint. We are energy efficient, support numerous recycling ventures, participate in remanufacturing and regularly donate surplus medical supplies and equipment both nationally and internationally.

Royston Centre

The Royston Centre adjoining the hospital provides specialist consulting rooms as well as cardiology, physiotherapy and radiology facilities.

The Royston Centre is also home to the team at Focus Health Physiotherapy and TRG Imaging (previously Hawke’s Bay Radiology).
