Training

I did my basic medical training at Otago Medical School. I did my orthopaedic training in Toronto Canada, and then was appointed as an Associate Professor at the University of Toronto. I returned to NZ in 1981, and have worked as a surgeon at Wakefield and Wellington Hospitals since. 

Specialising in

I have a special interest in hip and knee reconstruction including primary and revision hip and knee replacement.I have an extensive research background in these areas with a large number of publications in peer reviewed journals. I enjoy the challenge of dealing with difficult orthopaedic problems and achieving good outcomes for patients.

Other career highlights

I was Professor and Head of the Dept of Surgery at the Wellington School of Medicine for nine years and am currently a Clinical Professor of Surgery.I was President of the New Zealand Orthopaedic Association in 2003-4. I became an Officer of the NZ Order of Merit in the 2009 New Year Honours.
